During this semester, I learned a lot. First of all, I could review what I learned in Korea like descriptive essay, and I could learn many types of essays. The biggest change I made in this class is , I feel less nervous when I have presentation than I was in Korea (it is just few month ag0!!) Through group project, presentations, and research I felt like I'm in the real university.

Sometimes, these made me tired and streesful, I really enjoyed. Every class, I was very happy to learn something.

Still, I have things to improve. Sometimes it is very difficult to understand people outside like starbucks, retaurants because they speak so fast. Maybe I have to hang out more !! :)

It is end of the semester, and it's time to say good bye. It is very sad some of you are leaving.
Well, it sounds like very common to say " I will miss u". But!!1 I will miss u really .....:( Some of you go back to your countries and some of you go to university. I hope you all succeed in your academic life whereever you are.

For those who will miss me!!! I will stay in here summer haha and I going to take a driver's license. Also, I'm thinking about taking community college classes if it is possible.

After that, I will come back to ALP in fall~~~~~

Reaction

In the whole movie, I found that the 'Manufactured world" is the most impressive scene for me.

In that scene, I heard a sound of saw and trees fell down. A little girl of a tribe saw it between trees. It makes me feel sad and sympathy on her. Also, it show apartments right under the rock mountains. Over the apartments, an airplane passed and people in the apartments are watching outside. When I saw scenes which shows chickens in machines, It showed devastated side of industrialization, and it showed that industrialization hurts animals, environment.

When people in the apartments are watching outside, I felt sympathy. Also, when the video showed a scene which described high buildings with no trees, it made me chunky. At the same time, in the scene chickens in a machine and bum their bills, I was very angry about that.

In my opinion, the director's purpose of this scene was to make people realize that they have to develop industry without hurting environment. When I saw this scene, it remind me a documentary abut devastating Amazon because of people's greed for industrialization. In this documentary, I also felt guilty but I forgot that feeling for a long time. Through this movie, I can find the feeling and it became the chance to remind that we have to protect our animals and environment.

Find a job that you love doing and you will never have to work a day in your life.

Usually, before going to a university, most of the students decide what kind of major he will major in and it is related to his job. When students think about their jobs, they might consider two things. A job which can make big money or a job which he really like to do. It will be perfect to find a job to catch two things but there will be situation which he should choose.

In reading this quote, my feeling was that it is perfect quote to people who are in this situation. If you choose a job which can earn make big money but you don't like, you will be the person like in the picture. You will get much stress every day and that will be a terrible life. However, if you choose a job you like, you will enjoy your life. You can get two birds with one stone!!

I believe this quote will help who are under stress in their jobs. They will find that they need to change something in their career and I hope they will enjoy their life with their joyful job.

In this article, Alisson want people to join 'Green My Parents'.She argues that parents should join GMP's program with their children and make some action for our earth. This is a claim of value which appeal to emotion like worry, heart, dream. She suggested an evidence that the average family can save over $1000 each year by joining GMP's program and doing some actions for earth. In my opinion, it is very good idea to make a action not for just one day,Earth day, but for whole year. If I can save money doing walking to school and kicking the bottled-water habit, I think it is a pretty good idea. Because she used words which can move peoples mind and suggested appropriate evidence, I think there will be many people who agree with her opinion.

Dear. Mom and Dad

My dear parents mom and dad these days, I miss you a lot. I think this is my first letter to you two after I came here and I am very sorry about that.
The reason why I write this letter is, I'm planning to go to Africa to volunteer. When I was young , I once tell you that I want to go to Africa and I'm planning to do it in the near future.
I know you won't like it. It is true that going to Africa is dangerous. However, there is a possible solution. I can be safe because the volunteers will move together. If we move together, the danger facts will be decreased. I promise that I will not move alone. This will make me more safe.

You might heard that I can get diseases at there, but I can prevent the diseases. Before people go to the countries in which we can diseases, they can go to doctors and ask consult. Then, doctors predict the possible diseases and they will prescribe a preventive injection or medicine. Of course, I'll follow this procedure and this means that you don't have to worry about this!

Also, you might think that it can be wasting time for my study, but I think it can be worthy time. As you know, my major is education. The common thing between education and volunteering is giving. Even though teachers get wages, I think it is very important for teachers to give their knowledge not wanting compensation. I don't want to be a teacher who consider his/her students as people for his/her money. So, through this chance I want to cultivate teacher's attainment.

According to researchers from the University of Washington and the University of Queensland in Australia, they say the death rate is remained steady. However, According to Dr. Christopher Murray of Washington and his colleagues , they argue that it is decreasing year by year. They surveyed the death rate duing childbirth all over the world, and they found the rate is decresing. However, in U.S. the birth rate is increased between 1990 to 17 in 2008. It is because of HIV.

1 year ago, I decided to study abroad for my English, but I didn't decide where to go. When I was young, I wanted to go England because I was very interested in England accent. By the way, there were some problems. There was my brother in America already, so if I go to the England, it would cost too much money. Also, although I can learn England accent, we don't use England accent in Korea. It will be nothing. So, I decided to get some advice from my English teacher.I learned English from him for 6 years, so he knows me very well.

I visited him and asked some advice. He said that America would be good because there is my brother and it can be lonely if I go the England alone. Also, if I go the England, it will cost a lot and because we don't use England accent in Korea, it can be a just travel. In addition, because my brother is America, I can spend time more time by this chance. After I live with him this chance, there will be no more chance to live with him.

After I visit him, I thought a lot of time. Considering his advice and other envorinment, I decided to come here. After all, I'm very happy to be here. I met good friends like you and I can spend time with my brother.
Still, I keep in touch with him. I hope he will give advice when I have some problems.

Interesting Research Question!!!

My major is education, but because I was just a freshman in Korea, so I don't know much about my major. I just learned about 'The Study Of Language', England literature, and history of education. I choose Greek philosphers as my topic, because I think greek philosophers influenced today's education and they are very important to study for out future's education.

When I find 'greek philosophers' in wikipedia, there are many philosophers like Aristotle, Plato, and Socrates. These philosophers are very famous and important people in education. So I decide to study these people.

I thought 3 questions related my topic.

1. What influences of Socrates, Plato, Aristotle on today's education?

2. Which thought of Greek philosophers fit to Korean education?

Hope to familiar with American Food

When I think about American food, sandwiches, pizza, steak or hotdog.


When I ate American food here, I was very shocked because everything I ate is very salty.



On first day I'm here, my brother bought me pizza, pasta, and salad.

I have eaten pizza,pasta and salad of course in Korea, but the taste was very different.

Pizza was very salty, and salad was very sour. I couldn't eat anything. I expected Korean taste. Even though they exist in Korea, they are made for Korean. Foods are less salty and sour.

In addition, I have a interesting story. One day, after my brother and I went gym, I wanted to eat a hotdog. I was thinking about corndog because in Korea, we call corndog as a hotdog. My brother took me to seven eleven, and he bought me a hotdog. REAL AMERICAN HOTDOG.

My face distorted because I didn't mean American hotdog. I knew that in America "hotdog" doen't mean " corndog", but at that time, I forgot it.

Very funny, huh?

Because I planned to be here for one year, my brother wants me to eat more american foods and experience American culture. My brother always says to me that by the time I come back to Korea, I will be holic to American food.Until now, not yet. But I hope I will like American food, not holic:)

In everyday life, it is very important to have a positive attitude. I believe that good things will be happen if we just have a positive attitude.


I think this quote wanats to say that if you have possitive thinking, everything will be OK BUT if you have negative attitude, everything will be wrong. I agree this idea. If we have positive attitude, even if we are in a bad situation, things gonna be OK becacuse we will find good things in the bad situation and doing so, the problem will be solved.


However, if we have negative attitude about everything, any impovement will not happen. In the negative attitude, people are more liable to see the bad things and they think their problem will not be solved. In the situation like this, people will not be able to find a solution forever.


I think being an optimist is very good and I'm trying to be an optimist. Actually, I think I'm not an optimist but neither a pessimist. I'm just a person who worries about the things and hope that things gonna be okay.


When an accident happens to me, I REALLY worry about the bad situations which can be happen to me, but I try to think positive way and hope problems will not happen.


For example, last year, when I tried to apply college of education all teachers and my parents said you will fail because of my math. Even though I want education major, they wanted me to apply another major. I knew the danger of applying the major, but I applied. Everyday, I worried about the fail but prayed not to fail. After all, I passed. I wonder if my pray worked.


Now, you saw my case. What do you think about me? Do you think I'm optimist or pessimist?

My Best Friend

My best fiend is a lovely girl in Korea whose name is Seohae Chae. Her age is same as me, 19. I met her at the university in Korea. At first, I didn't know about her very much but as time goes by, we got along with each other.


There are many differences between me and her such as eating style, favorite singer, music style and so on. I think that is the reason why it took a long time to get along with her.

The first difference between me and she is favorite singer. She likes Wonder gilrs most but I like Epik High. Their music style is wholly differnt. Wonder girls is idol group but Epik High is not.
She said she doesn't like Hip Hop.


Also, she doen't like snacks but I like snacks. Whenever I said to her to get some snacks, she said no. So I sometimes feel little discomfortable because of this difference.But as time goes by, we can find similarities we have.



It is out habit. She and I both likes She likes watching movies and so do I. So we got familiar each other. Every week we go to the theater, we can find another similarity.
She likes chatting and so do I. Well, it seems lile all girls like chatting but strangly, some friend of mine don't like chatting. So when found she likes chatting, I was convinced that she and I can get along with more easier and it worked.


First semester gone, and we became bestfriends. So we feel very bad when I came here. I can meet other friends because they are there. But I cannot see my bestfriend because she is planning transfer. When I go back to Korea, I cannot see Seohae anymore in the school. She lives different city. I think it will be more difficult to meet eachother.

Even though we cannot meet each other as we were in the same school, I hope our relationship will not break.

LOVELY ANIMALS

I think today's topic is very interesting. If people can communicate with animals, I think there will be no more animal cruelty. If people hit animals or throw their pets, pets will be able to talk not to do that. And People can know when their pets thier food or water. If this situation happens, it will be convenient to raise pets.


One of my friends, there is a girl who has cat. Whenever I go o her house, I feel she is very cute. She likes to play with me. At first, she didn't like me but after we get familiar with me she likes me. However sometimes, I don't know what she want. Sometimes, she rub his body to me. Also, she rarely mews but sometimes she does. I want to know what she wants to say to me.
If she can talk to me, I think our relationship will be better than now.
If I can talk to her, I want to ask if she really likes me and what she means whenever she mewing. Also I want to ask what she really likes to do and what she really hates to do.
I saw a person who can communicate on TV. I really want to know how she can communicate with animals.

Day Of Peace

There are many singers I like. In Korea, Epik-High which is a Hip-Hop group and MYK who is a Hip-Hop singer.Also, I like Jason Mraz I think who is very familiar with you guys and Travis which is a famous group in England.

One of their songs, there is a my favorite song. It is Day Of Peace. It is a song of Epik High. I heard it when I was middle school student. At that time, I was just a thirtee years old little girl who has dissatisfaction at everything. Because I was a girl at puberty, I was very displeased about school, study and so on.

One day, I heard the song on Tv. It was very funny music. The words was about irritating life. 'Superior wants my girl, My white shirt which I bought yesterday gets dirty,I'm in a club but a ugly girl is pestering to me. Life sucks but you can circle one day of a month which is called Day Of Peace. On Day Of Peace, Let's hlep each other. Let's laugh.Let's love. Girls, Do not make up on Day of Peace. Boys, make your thinking better instead of your body. Today's patience will be a chance.'

The words impressed me. From that day whenever I feel dissatisfaction about something, I tried to think "Today is the Day of Peace. Calm down Calm down."

It really worked. Utill now whenever I feel bad, I liesten to this song. It really makes me calm down. That is why I like this song very much.

Autumn; perfect weather to picnic

In my country, I really like autumn. In autumn, the weather is perfect. Sometimes it is very cold in a morning or evening, but in a day time it is very sunny and breezy. I like this kind of weather because it is proper weather for me I think. In Korea, in spring the weather is irregular. A cycle of three cold days and four warm days irritate me. And in summer, it is very hot and humid. In humid weather, it is easy to lose my control. In winter, it is so cold that I rarely go outside. So it is easier to get my weight. For these reasons, I like autumn.

In autumn, I like to go travel or picnic my friends. It is a little chilly but when I move or do something, it is perfect weathe to going out.

Also, in autumn a maple is very fantastic. I don't like climbing mountains but in autumn I like.

If I see maple and feel the fallen leaves are rustling under my foot, it feels great.

I have never seen the California's autumn because I came here in January. In here, I want to know how the California's weather is. I really expect California's September.

INEVITABLE FEAR

I have some difficulty at speaking in front of

people. Since I was young once I had a chance to speak in front of many people, my pulse was getting faster and some times my face turned red. I was very nervous even when I was taking a simple vocaubulary test or indroducing myself. So whenever I had a presenation in class, my classmates used to say "Yeseon!! Don't be scared!! You can do it!!" Still, I have the problem with it. Whenever I have a chance to present in front of many people, I am very nervous.

But! I think I have to overcome this fear because my dream is being a teacher. Teachers have to speak well in front of the students. If a teacher always nervous, students will not be comfortable.And in Korea, giving a trial performance is one of the subjuects of teacher's exam. So to pass the exam and to become a good teacher, I have to get over it.

I know I have to overcome the fear but it is very difficult. Many people around me say experience will help me to remove my fear. And my brother also say it will be very helpful to take a class which has a presentation.

I have some classes which have presentation. I feel afraid of it but I hope all of the fears about presentation will go away by the time when I go back to Korea.

Tara's new year resolution

On December 31th, I made a list which I want to do in 2010. At first it was just about losing weight. But I think it is too weak. This is the thing which I have had ever since I gained weight.
I think I need more specific plan. It is exercise regularly and eat healthy food.


My brother and I planned together about exercising. He said he plays basketball on sundays, so we can play tennis on saturdays. I said I can cook healthy food for us. But any of the plans didn't worked yet. I think it is because I came here just a couple weeks ago and it took a long time to adapt to a new circumstances. So I didn't have time to exercise. Now, I already adapted. I think I can exercise from next week. (because my brother and I have a plan to travel this weekend.)

In addition to exercising, it is very important to eat healthy food. I'm trying to eat healthy food twice a day. But it is very difficult to eat healthy food every meal because it take a long time to make. From now on, to lose my weight and to strengthen my body I will try to eat healthy food more frequently and try to reduce eating out.

Imagining my figure which is very healty, I will carry on my plans.

Chance to know about Tara

Hi~~ As you know, I'm Tara. I think it is a great chance to know each other. I'm from Korea and I was undergraduate student in Korea. My major is English Education. But, I'm not good at English because I was a freshman in Korea. That is why I'm here.I want to improve my English. By this chance, I hope my English will be improved and I want to be a good teacher in Korea. And if I can do, after I graduate, I want to study TESOL here.

In Korea, My hobby was watching a movie. I went a theater once a week. After I came here, I've never been to a theater because I've lived here only two weeks. So I don' t know where a theater is. And furthermore, I can't drive. I think it will be hard to watch a movie here. I think that to see a movie, I have to have a drive licence.^^

Let me introduce out classmate who I interviewed. She is~~ "Wendy~~!!"
I think she is a very nice girl. She is from Taiwan and she has been here about six months. She likes outside activity something like climbing a mountain. She likes outside activity very much so she wants to learn how to snowboarding. I think it's pretty cool. In addition, Wendy said she likes art. So When she was in Taiwan, she went art museum once a month.


Art-one of her favorite things- is related to her dream. In Taiwan, her major was finance. But she likes art very much. So she is considering studying art here. But she said she didn't decide yet. I hope she will study what she wants.

When I saw her first, I thought she may be very nice. and after I interviewed her, I realized that she is really nice.
